StanChart Chairwoman Makes First Visit to Singapore

The group chair of Standard Chartered recently visited Singapore to meet clients and colleagues two months after taking on the role.

Standard Chartered group chair Maria Ramos made her first visit to Singapore this week, according to a statement. During a three-day trip from July 1 to 3, she met with clients and colleagues in the city-state, which is the bank’s second-largest income contributor behind Hong Kong.

She shared her thoughts on the bank's strategic priorities in Singapore and Southeast Asia. She also interacted with employees at the flagship Battery Road branch where she was given a demonstration of the bank’s latest digital capabilities aimed at delivering a «seamless and secure» wealth journey.

Singapore is one of the first countries Ramos has visited since becoming the bank’s group chair in May, succeeding José Viñals, who retired from the board. Ramos has extensive experience in the private and public sectors, including as CEO of Absa Group Limited (formerly Barclays Africa Group Limited), group chief of Transnet Ltd, a state-owned freight transport and logistics service provider, and the director-general of South Africa’s National Treasury.
